Training
Rigorous preparation for complex care
Dr. Nolan earned his dental degree at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, then completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. His hospital-based training spanned facial trauma, reconstruction, anesthesia, and the full scope of the specialty. He is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery, a credential that reflects rigorous written and oral examination of his knowledge and surgical judgment.
Today he serves as Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Program Director at Montefiore Einstein, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and sees patients at Montefiore Einstein's Centennial Dental Practice in the Bronx.
That training forms the foundation for the advanced work he performs today, including full-arch implant rehabilitation with remote anchorage, reconstruction of the jaws, and corrective jaw surgery planned with 3D virtual technology.
Residency Director
Teaching the next generation of surgeons
As Program Director at Montefiore Einstein, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Nolan leads the education of oral and maxillofacial surgery residents, guiding them through years of surgical, medical, and anesthesia training. He mentors residents in the operating room and the clinic, emphasizing sound judgment, meticulous technique, and respect for every patient.
His research, including advanced bone regeneration of the upper and lower jaws, treatment of chronic myofascial facial pain, reducing reliance on opioids after surgery, and safer intravenous sedation protocols, is driven by the same question he asks in clinic: how can we make care safer and recovery easier for patients?
Teaching keeps him at the forefront of the field. Questions from residents, ongoing review of the literature, and collaboration with colleagues across specialties all shape the care he provides in his own practice.
Philosophy
Precise surgery, honest guidance, and care that continues after the procedure
Surgery is only one part of a patient's experience. Understanding, trust, and a clear plan matter just as much.
Dr. Nolan believes that good surgical outcomes begin long before the operating room. He takes time to explain what he sees, presents the options honestly, including when surgery is not the right answer, and works closely with each patient's dentist, orthodontist, and physicians so care feels coordinated rather than fragmented.
His goal is not simply a successful procedure, but a lasting result: restored function, renewed confidence, and a patient who felt informed and cared for every step of the way.
